Your 14 Tools For Success: Part 2

This week, more Resources For Your Insides - seven more useful beliefs that you can carry around and use whenever you need them…

Once again, there is a big difference between on the one hand, reading them and agreeing with the statement, and on the other hand beginning to act as if it were true for you.

Take the first one below, for example. We all appreciate that a willingness to change our behaviours is the key to getting different results but 80-90% of the time we have the same conversations about the same things with the same people, driving the same way home, eating the same type of food, going to the same places, thinking the same thoughts about the same issues in the same way. We may also wear the same sort of clothes 80-90% time!

Most of the time we are actually pretty rigid, patterned and predictable - it takes a real determination to act differently, change our circumstances, enforce new boundaries and reconsider those beliefs that might be holding us back.

When you are going around a corner at high speed, where you look has the most impact on where you end up. The spot to aim for is the vanishing point - where the corner goes out of site. Provided you keep your eye on the vanishing point, then the car or bike will get round fast and safely. These tools are your vanishing point - where to focus whilst you are cornering through your life or career.

How To Use The Tools…

14 Useful Beliefs….

Below you’ll find seven more useful beliefs. At first reading, they may seem no more than a collection of wise old sayings or proverbs and they can certainly be read that way. With a bit of reflection though, they can become useful beliefs to hold and tools to enable you to create the success you want.

14 Tools For Success: Part 2

  1. Being willing to change behaviours, beliefs, circumstances and boundaries is fundamental to creating positive change. Any disempowering belief we are unwilling to reconsider will end up holding us back.
    • Do you agree?
    • What beliefs about yourself, your circumstances or your capabilities might be holding you back?
  2. Patience is a key ingredient in the receipe for success.
    • Do you agree?
    • Colonel Sanders was 65 when he finally cashed his Social Security check and began travelling across the country by car, looking for franchisees to sell his chicken. 65! A great example of patience - in his 80’s he sold out his interest for $2 million. Your dream may be more modest but do you have the patience to see it through?
  3. When feelings are strong enough, sometimes the facts don’t matter.
    • Do you agree?
    • The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
      George Bernard Shaw

    • Can you think of some unreasonable men and women who have changed our commercial or social world in the last 10 years? What could you learn from them?
  4. The extent to which we don’t believe in something is the extent to which we won’t get what we want.
    • Do you agree?
    • What does this mean for you?
  5. Giving up excuses is the key to succeeding, as is taking action.
    • Do you agree?
    • What are your favourite excuses? (no time, no money, xxx won’t let me etc.)
  6. Being willing to change your approach until you get your desired outcome is a sign of perseverance. Perseverance is simply a sign that you believe in yourself.
    • Most people give up after 2 or 3 attempts - what is your 'giving up' threshold? How many different attempts are you willing to make to get a different result?
  7. Having an open mind means there is a possibility that something useful will drop into it.
    • On average wages, with an average working life, nearly 1m will pass through your hands this lifetime. You’re almost certainly going to be a millionaire from this perspective - what possibilities does this open up for you?

Remember: These are portable tools, you can carry them around without hassle, they weigh nothing and you can use them 24/7 under any circumstances. Test them out in your own experience.
