Becoming more creative...

There might be times when you could do with a little more creativity. Here are a few hints...

The best way to get great ideas is to get lots of ideas and throw the bad ones away
Create ideas that are 15 minutes ahead of their time not light years ahead
Always look for the second right answer
If at first you don't succeed then take a break
Write down your ideas before you forget them
If everyone says you are wrong, you're one step ahead. If everyone laughs at you, you're two steps ahead
The answer to your problem exists already. You need to ask the right question or questions to reveal the answer
When you ask a dumb question, you get a smart answer
It's hard to solve a problem from its original perspective
Use all your senses on your problem before you solve it. How does it look? How does it sound? What does it smell like? Taste? Feeling? How do you describe it to yourself and others?

If you are selling a product or trade...

I recommend two sites. Chris Cardell (UK based not American) has a very helpful mailing list and you can pick up lots of ideas from his free stuff. Paul Gorman (also UK based) has written a great little book which you can download here: The Game Of Business And How To Play It.

PLEASE NOTE: All of the above will try and sell you their stuff and this is a GOOD thing because:

You can treat them as a models to learn from - study how they do it and work out how to use their approach in your business
They all give away free stuff that will get you past the first 2 or 3 steps.
The messages are very consistent across all three and once you've heard and seen and read the same message 6 or 7 times then you may actually start to do it!
